Rib-to-Base Junction Review for Sand-Cast Supports

Relia reviews sand-cast supports with ribs joining a base, bore region or mounting body. Before pattern making, connect the required load path and clearance to the actual rib-root section. Any proposed transition must preserve your approved assembly function.

Relia reviews your support drawing and loading brief, then connects proposed transitions, machining stock and sample checks to the component's actual function.

A Support Geometry Review Before Pattern Making

Relia starts with the required assembly envelope, material and working contacts. Proposed foundry changes are reviewed with the part owner before they replace the controlled geometry.

Function

Load path, clearances and mounting requirements.

Cast geometry

Rib roots, base sections and proposed transitions.

Finished component

Machining and agreed acceptance evidence.

Ribs and Bases in the Working Assembly

Show where the load enters the support and how the base is fixed. Include mating-part envelopes and surfaces that cannot move or change.

Provide the actual material requirement and relevant design criteria. The foundry review addresses manufacturability within that approved functional basis.

04 / 10 · Local sections

Section Changes at the Rib Roots

Examine the rib and base in section. A junction can concentrate material where several features meet, even when the individual ribs appear slender.

Connected sections

Show rib thickness, base thickness and nearby bosses or walls.

Process consequences

Review filling and solidification around the actual junction.

Review intersecting features as one local region

Two ribs, a boss and a base can create a different local section from a single rib. Include the full intersection on the section drawing and identify the protected function.

05 / 10 · Foundry proposal

Fillets and Foundry Geometry Proposals

A proposed blend, relief or local section change should explain its manufacturing purpose and its effect on the assembly. Agree actual dimensions with the component owner.

Keep the rib end, mounting clearance and working envelope visible in the review. A general recommendation for a larger fillet is not a substitute for the approved part geometry.

Several raised regions meet in a compact base, making the complete local section important.

Machining Stock on the Supporting Faces

Locate the blank

Identify cast or prepared contacts for the first operation.

Preserve local stock

Retain the material needed at finished contacts.

Accept the interface

Measure the specified mounting and bore relationships.

Connect stock to the actual machining references and delivered condition.

07 / 10 · Targeted evidence

The Junctions Selected for Sample Checks

Identify the local regions and related dimensions needing evaluation. Specify dimensional records, surface observations or additional testing with its required acceptance.

Geometry evidence

Connect the measured junction and interfaces to the approved revision.

Additional examination

Define method, coverage and criteria where the order requires them.

Relia can provide agreed key dimensional records, with characteristics and sampling frequency specified per order.

Agree Design Changes with the Part Owner

Before pattern work

Approve sections, transitions, stock and protected interfaces.

Before production

Approve sample evidence against the controlled drawing.

Keep any later geometry or material change attached to the same review and release process.
