CNC Machining for Castings and Metal Components

Relia can CNC-finish its own castings or review blanks you supply. We connect available stock, stable locating references and tool access to the bores, faces, threads and fixing patterns on your drawing. The quotation separates the incoming blank from the finished component and identifies which operations remain with your workshop.

The Assembly Reference Leads the CNC Plan

Relia uses the controlled drawing and PDF/CAD or IGES/STEP inputs to connect feature access, material condition and the required fit. The catalogue’s CNC service identifies drilling, milling and turning as project operations. Their names do not set a universal tolerance or machine setup; the actual component determines how many operations, references and checks are needed.

The Incoming Blank Must Contain the Finished Part

A casting may be within its outside envelope while lacking cleanup stock around an offset bore or face. Review the blank and finished models together, including local stock and areas suitable for locating. For customer-supplied castings, agree the incoming condition and what happens if the required finished geometry cannot be achieved from a particular blank.

The First Setup Creates a Useful Reference

An irregular casting needs stable support before a trustworthy datum can be cut. Place supports so the cutting load does not bend a thin floor or wall, and keep clamps away from the tool path. Once a primary reference exists, the next setup should transfer the intended relationship instead of choosing an unrelated convenient surface.

Tool Reach and Chip Exit Shape the Operation

On the carrier shown, the raised posts and central profile constrain the cutter and holder approach. Review tool overhang, stiffness and chip removal before assigning the finished surface requirement.

A ported body adds deep bores and intersecting holes approached from different directions. If drilling opens into another passage, include the new internal edge in the deburring and cleaning scope.

Size and Position Need Different Checks

On a carrier, the central bore, post positions and seating plane locate the mating mechanism together. Correct post diameters alone cannot establish their pitch or position. The drawing identifies the datum and the required relationship, while the inspection plan states a suitable setup and result. This keeps a numerical size tolerance from becoming an incomplete promise of assembly fit.

Finishing Order Preserves the Final Dimension

Thermal and surface operations can change shape, size or the condition of a working surface. Establish which cuts occur before or after them and which contacts need masking. A finished bore may require protection during packing even when the rough exterior can tolerate ordinary contact. Final inspection represents the version delivered to your workshop or assembly line.

The Sample Resolves Setup and Interface Risks

Use the sample to confirm the difficult bore, related mounting face or deep-access feature rather than only the easiest outside dimensions. Relia can provide key dimensional records with characteristics and sampling agreed per order. Drawing and sample criteria are settled before the trial, and your sample approval provides the basis for arranging batch production.

Choose the Correct Casting and Machining Boundary

Use the full-component guide when the order includes blank making and CNC. Choose the customer-supplied-blank page for machining your own castings. Technical notes on first-operation pads, gauge correlation and edge breaks isolate specific issues that can otherwise be hidden inside a broad precision-machining description.
