A hub with an internally notched opening needs its mating geometry defined independently from its exterior outline. The dark example has a tall cylindrical hub above a circular flange with edge recesses. This steel or iron investment-casting enquiry therefore begins with the hub, internal profile and flange working together.

Describe the internal profile and lower flange

Provide a section through the cylindrical hub and a view that fully defines the noncircular opening. State the actual profile dimensions and any governing interface specification. Locate the flange recesses and contact faces from the hub datums so that the final inspection can reproduce the required assembly relationship.

Identify whether the order includes only this component or any mating shaft, fasteners or other pieces. A notched opening does not establish a universal shaft standard or an allowable transmitted torque. Those requirements belong in the actual assembly design and its acceptance criteria.

Select the iron or steel specification

High-chromium cast iron is a material enquiry direction that needs an actual grade and condition on the order documentation. Steel and other iron selections are separate alternatives. A dark surface and rough texture cannot independently establish composition, hardness, wear resistance or a heat-treatment condition.

  • Define the hub, flange and internal-profile drawing.
  • Select the actual steel or iron grade and condition.
  • Specify the required lost-wax or agreed casting route.
  • Mark internal and contact-face machining requirements.
  • Agree finish, material evidence and functional acceptance.

Set the finished hub acceptance basis

Investment and lost-wax terminology describes the proposed manufacturing direction for review against the selected design. Identify the surfaces accepted as cast and those requiring secondary work. Define the final dimensional checks in the condition in which the component will be supplied.

If the intended application depends on wear, torque or other mechanical performance, include the relevant test requirements and supporting records in the request. Send the controlled revision, quantities and mating details together, so that the material, internal interface and flange can be assessed as one specific casting project.
