Define a custom 304 or 316 stainless component through its material standard and actual casting requirements. A nominal stainless identifier is not, by itself, a casting-grade designation or evidence that die casting is the appropriate production route.

Map the stainless request to an actual grade

Provide the applicable material specification, required condition and any project-approved casting-grade designation. Identify the records needed to confirm the supplied metal. The terms 304 and 316 should remain tied to the requested specification rather than treated as verified sample chemistry or automatically interchangeable grades.

  • Identify the stainless component and drawing revision.
  • Specify the required 304 or 316 material standard.
  • Confirm casting grade and production-route feasibility.
  • Define machined contacts and finished surface condition.
  • Agree material records and applicable certification evidence.

Assess die casting against the component design

Supply section geometry, quantities and interfaces needing machining. Review die casting or another proposed route for the selected alloy instead of assuming a general process menu establishes feasibility. Any heat treatment or surface finish must suit the actual material, component function and final dimensional requirements.

Separate precision and certification acceptance

Use PDF or CAD drawings and IGES or STEP geometry to define tolerances with units and inspection conditions. Specify methods, coverage and reports for the actual part. If IATF16949 or another certificate is required, request current evidence covering the relevant supplier and scope; the requirement does not establish that certification is already verified.

Compare stainless proposals using the same casting-grade definition, feasible production plan and documentary acceptance for the intended component.
