A mining-chain side lock needs to be specified as part of its actual connection. This enquiry covers forged side-lock and connected-ring components with customer-required dimensions, so the selected configuration should be defined before manufacturing scope is agreed.
Describe how the side lock joins the chain
Identify whether the required component is a side lock, a connected ring or another part of the joining arrangement. Show the mating chain and the geometry that controls opening, engagement and locking. The supplied-component scope should identify any additional joining elements rather than imply that a complete chain assembly is included.
- Select the mining side-lock or connected-ring configuration required.
- Dimension the chain-contact and locking interfaces for that component.
- Specify the ferrous grade and condition for the forged part.
- Mark side-lock surfaces needing machining after forging.
- Define the surface treatment for the selected connection configuration.
- Include operating duty and the required component-acceptance evidence.
Coordinate forging, machining and finish
A forged connection may need machining on selected mating or locating surfaces. Mark those features on the component drawing and identify the finished condition that matters to assembly. Material grade, machining requirements and surface treatment should be discussed together without assuming that a broad process description fixes every manufacturing detail.
Establish the duty behind the mining application
Terms such as strong or heavy duty do not define a working-load class for a side lock. Describe the actual loads, wear environment and any fatigue or qualification requirements for the intended connection. Replacement fit and service acceptance require evidence for the selected geometry and material condition before the component is put into use.
Bring the side-lock drawing and the mating-chain requirements into one enquiry, so the forged component can be assessed against a defined configuration and duty.
