A custom plastic enclosure starts with the housing geometry and the environment it must serve. The example shows an open box-like component with a rim and projecting mounting tabs; the exact dimensions, polymer and supplied assembly need to be defined for your project.

Dimension the housing and its mounting tabs

Provide the outer housing shape, wall requirements, rim details and mounting-hole locations on the drawing. Identify the surfaces that locate the enclosure within its surrounding assembly. If a lid, inserts, fasteners or other companion pieces are required, include them in the enquiry instead of assuming that the open housing photograph defines a complete supplied set.

Confirm the polymer and suitable production route

State the actual polymer grade required for the enclosure and the conditions it must withstand. For an ABS, POM, PVC, ETFE, PTFE or PFA enquiry, material and process feasibility need to be checked together for the specific design. A broad material menu does not establish that every polymer uses the same production route or that the pictured housing has a particular composition.

Define enclosure performance as an assembly requirement

Mounting tabs and a raised rim do not by themselves establish sealing, an electrical approval or an environmental protection rating. Describe any such requirement for the completed housing assembly and identify the evidence needed for acceptance. Include the intended mating parts and use conditions so material selection and enclosure design address the same application.

  • Provide the plastic housing outline, wall geometry and mounting interfaces.
  • Specify the polymer grade and the required service environment.
  • Identify whether a lid, inserts or companion pieces are included.
  • Send PDF, STP or STEP drawings with the relevant dimensions.
  • Define the enclosure acceptance requirements and any necessary validation.

The useful starting point is a dimensioned plastic housing and a defined material/process enquiry, with the required supplied components agreed before ordering.

Please include the drawing revision, material specification, quantity, critical dimensions, finish and inspection documents needed for your part. Tooling, samples, delivery and any return or remedy arrangements are subject to the agreed order terms.
