An extruded aluminum heat sink must fit the installation as well as the cooling requirement. This custom heat-sink profile enquiry is for power-supply applications where cross-section, cut length and mounting details are selected for the project.
Define the heat-sink cross-section
Provide the base dimensions, fin arrangement and available installation envelope for the aluminum extrusion. Identify mounting holes, contact faces and any machining required after the profile is cut to length. Customized dimensions are an enquiry basis, so a fixed profile length or complete cross-section should not be assumed from the photographs.
Choose alloy, temper and finish together
The material choices include 6000-series aluminum, with 6063 and 6061 among the options. Confirm the actual alloy and temper for the required profile rather than treating a broad temper range as one finished specification. Anodizing or another surface treatment should be defined alongside cosmetic requirements and any interfaces where finish affects fit.
Assess the actual power-supply cooling duty
Fin density alone does not establish a cooling capacity or thermal-resistance value. Supply the heat load, airflow, mounting arrangement and required operating conditions for the heat sink to be assessed. If a specific thermal target is essential, agree the required evidence or validation for that installation instead of relying on the profile name.
- Send the aluminum heat-sink cross-section and required cut length.
- Identify base contact faces and mounting-hole geometry.
- Choose the extrusion alloy and temper for the order.
- Define anodized or other finishing requirements for the heat sink.
- Include the power-supply heat load, airflow and installation envelope.
For this customized extrusion, a dimensioned heat-sink profile and a defined thermal duty provide the basis for agreeing the material, machining and finish.
